Tragic Fire in Gwasi Claims the Lives of Two Children: Suspected Night Runner Involvement
A tragic fire in Gwasi claimed the lives of two young children, Saviour Omondi and Reagan Otieno, after their home was engulfed in flames. The family suspects the involvement of a mysterious night runner. Authorities are investigating the fire as a possible case of arson, while the community mourns the heartbreaking loss.
In a devastating incident in Gwasi, two young children were burned beyond recognition after a fire engulfed their home in the early hours of Saturday, September 14. The victims, Saviour Omondi, aged three, and his one-and-a-half-year-old brother, Reagan Otieno, tragically lost their lives in the blaze, which broke out at around 3 a.m.
At the time of the fire, their father, Paul Ochieng' Ogolla, was attending a night prayer service at a nearby home. He heard screams coming from his house and rushed back, only to find it consumed by flames. Despite desperate efforts, the fire claimed the lives of both children before any rescue could be made.
Gwasi West location chief, Tobias Opiyo, who spoke exclusively to TUKO.co.ke, revealed that the family suspects the involvement of an unidentified night runner, a mysterious individual who has been known to visit their home on several occasions. According to Ogolla, though he has no known conflicts with anyone in the village, the night runner has been a frequent presence near his residence, leading him to believe that this individual may have been responsible for starting the fire.
"Paul mentioned that a night runner, who frequently visits his place, might have started the fire. He also noted that he has no conflicts with anyone in the village and that the night runner is not known to them," Opiyo explained.
The case is currently being treated as suspected arson based on Ogolla’s account, though the night runner remains unidentified. Local police were quick to respond after being alerted by Chief Opiyo. Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. The children's bodies were transported to St. Carmella's Karungu for postmortem examination as part of the ongoing probe.
The community has been left in shock and mourning following the tragic loss of these two young lives. Meanwhile, the family is left grappling with the pain of losing their children under such horrifying circumstances.
This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns about the presence of night runners in the area and the potential danger they may pose. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the investigation.
