Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru Criticizes National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah Over Remarks on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Nairobi – In a heated address, Embakasi Central Member of Parliament Benjamin Gathiru has openly criticized National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The criticism came during a church service on Sunday, September 8, where Gathiru expressed his discontent with Ichung'wah's statements, which he believes were aimed at belittling Gachagua.

Gathiru, a close ally of the Deputy President, did not hold back as he accused Ichung'wah of disrespecting Gachagua in public forums. He also appeared to suggest that President William Ruto was partly responsible, stating that Ichung'wah’s appointment as Majority Leader was made by the President himself and not the Kenya Kwanza Alliance lawmakers.

"I want to ask the President; it is you who appointed Kimani Ichung'wah as the majority leader, not us. You made him the leader of government business, but I wonder if that role also involves going around the country insulting the Deputy President. Tame your dog," Gathiru said in a fiery speech.

The embattled MP urged President Ruto to intervene and control the majority leader, claiming that Ichung'wah had become "out of control" and that his behavior was tarnishing the image of the government. Gathiru voiced his frustration, saying it was embarrassing for leaders to follow someone who appeared to disrespect other key figures within the government.

"I am ashamed as a leader to stand before you and admit that my majority leader has become the subject of children's conversations because of his habit of insulting others. What kind of government is this?" Gathiru questioned, expressing his disillusionment.

The lawmaker also hinted at growing dissatisfaction within the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, especially among allies of Deputy President Gachagua. According to Gathiru, the constant belittling of Gachagua’s allies was making it difficult for them to continue supporting the administration.

The public outburst underscores the tensions within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, as leaders grapple with internal divisions and public scrutiny. It remains to be seen how President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua will address the widening rift within their political camp.
